The Active School committee and 6th class have been extremely busy in the last few Months coordinating activities on all yards to teach the pupils how to play together. It has been a pleasure watching how the Active School Committee and 6th class conduct themselves and they deserve great credit for all their hard work with all classes.

During the March, April and May we concentrated on the Gymnastics part of the curriculum. The children in 3rd and 4th class have also been swimming in Bishopstown as part of our Aquatics programme. The children are making great progress thanks to their own hard work and with the help of gymnastics teacher Colm.

As part of our half marathon initiative we have also been walking/running five laps of the school yard every day. Fifth class measured the yard earlier in the year and calculated if we ran five laps every day we would all complete a half marathon by the end of June. Please see below for our progress so far.

We are holding our Active School Week on 7th June – 10th June. We have some great activities organised for all classes including Ultimate Frisbee, our Sports Day and an Orienteering Day. We will also be holding a few talks in our school hall on water safety and we will be welcoming personnel from Dennehy’s Health and Fitness who will give a talk on fitness, health and nutrition. We will also be holding a jersey day and a “Just Dance” session in the school hall for all classes. To end the week will be having our Student versus Staff match and both teams will be looking forward to that battle. We are also planning to have a blitz for each class in the next few weeks so it is going to be an Active end to the year!!
