MONEY SNAKE COMPETITION

Thank you to all the students who took the time and trouble in sending in entries into our “Design A Money Snake” Competition, the quality and imagination shown on our theme “Healthy Eating” was fantastic, well done to you all. We are delighted to announce the winner of the competition and the lucky recipient of the €30 CEX voucher was Nicola Leppert (3rd Class) and the runner up €10 National Reading Voucher was won Ciara O’ Flynn (6th Class). You will be able to see this fantastic design on Friday 10th June (weather permitting). When we undertake copying this design onto the playground so the children can each enjoy placing their saved coins onto the design (we hope you’re all busy saving coins in your pringles tins!!) pictures of the finished picture complete with coins will be uploaded onto both our Facebook page and the school website.

SCHOOL VEGETABLE PROJECT

We are very excited to announce a new project for all of the school!!, by kind permission of David Nolan, The Board of Management and the staff we are starting an exciting new initiative whereby all students will be given the opportunity to “grow their own” vegetables and plants, I’m sure you’ll agree this is a fantastic opportunity for our children to appreciate exactly just where their food comes from.

We have been donated pallets and old tyres but are still looking for old wheelbarrows, pots, old wellies and other suitable containers for this project, so we are asking when you clear out your sheds you could bear us in mind for any unwanted gardening equipment or pots.

Also any seed packets, bulbs, compost etc. would be greatly appreciated.

But what we really need is “GREEN FINGERED HELP”

This is a new project and our small PA committee do not claim to be very “green Fingered” so anyone willing to give up a couple of hours to help with this project, even just to initially get it up and running would be appreciated (grandparents, Uncles and Aunts this include you!!), we hope once this is set up the children will take over the daily tending, if you can help (no matter how small!!) please contact either the school directly or one of the committee members or message us through our Facebook page. Thank You!!

CLOTHES RECYCLING

The next opportunity to recycle clothes collection before the end of the school year is Tuesday 7th June , this has proved a great way to raise badly need funds for the school whilst also de cluttering your wardrobes and helping a good cause! Win, win win!!! So please could you bear us in mind for any clothes you are looking to recycle.

BATTERY RECYCLING

There will be battery recycle containers located in the school reception, filled containers will be donated to the Laura Lynn charity, I’m sure you’ll agree an excellent cause.  Our donations would go some way to hit their target fund of €250,000 for 2016.

MOBILE PHONE COLLECTION

Adding to our growing number of recycling projects is our mobile phone collection.  We ask that you might donate your unwanted phones for recycling.  Please ensure that all personal material is removed including SIM cards.  A recycling bin is located just outside Ruth’s office.

CONFIRMATION & COMMUNION

We would like to congratulate all the girls and boys that recently made their Confirmation and Holy Communion.  We would also like to thank all the volunteers for their contribution to help make both days very special for the children and their families.

PARENTS ASSOCIATION

We are a committee of 8 parents, we are small but mighty!!! The role of the parents association is to help fundraise on behalf of the school for items that enhance and enrich the learning environment for all children.  We do this by holding cake sales, clothing collections, money snakes, raffles & Christmas bazaar.  We generally meet at the front gate of the school for a natter in the mornings and we are always looking for new parents to join us.  We have occasional meetings and would be delighted if you would consider joining the committee for the coming year starting in September.

Here is how the Parents Association have helped for 2015-2016 so far…

  • 9 Lottie Dolls and accessories for Junior & Senior Infants Aistear programme
  • Selection box and a visit from Santa for all children
  • Garden supplies for participating classes
  • Church flowers for holy Communion and Confirmation
  • Disco & D.J for 6th class Confirmation party
  • Communion morning ‘party’
  • 6th Leaving day
  • Internet Safety Competition
  • Open Night refreshments

Best of luck to all our community as we head in to the summer holidays!
