Shanbally National School Parents Association’s 1st Newsletter.
Outlining all the Parents Association’s upcoming events:
Dear Parents,
Welcome back and welcome to the very first newsletter this year from the Shanbally National School Parents Association J
The Parents Association play a key role within the school. We are currently busily preparing for our upcoming events for another fun-filled fundraising year. The money raised each year goes directly back into the school and more importantly benefits each and every one of our children.
Some of the items we hope to help finance this coming term will be:
- We hope once again to help fund a new educational programme this year aimed at improving the manner in which maths is taught: The programme is called ‘Mata sa Rang’, It is essentially an in-class approach to numeracy using Maths recovery approaches. The teaching is geared towards the class as opposed to individuals. Children will be encouraged to think hard, discuss & solve problems. All classes throughout the school will benefit from this programme. Details are displayed on the Notice Board at school gates.
- ‘The Building Bridges Programme‘, this is basically a whole new approach to the teaching of comprehension. Drawing on current research regarding effective comprehension instruction, its primary focus is the teaching of comprehension, with the ultimate aim of enabling children to become self-regulated strategic readers.
- The mobile Cinema is visiting the school this Friday the 5th of October at a cost of €4.50 per child. The parents Association will pay €2.50 towards this cost, therefor leaving only a balance of €2 from the parents per child.
- There will be a visiting Panto coming to the school on December 7th, called the ‘West Midlands Children’s theatre group’. They will be performing ‘Old King Cole’. This play is for 1st class to 6th class. You can check out their website at www.wmct.co.uk. This is costing €360 and we are delighted that the Parents Association are in the position to fund this fantastic play.
- On the same day the Panto is visiting we will have a special surprise for our juniors & seniors in the Halla that morning.
- Santa will once again make his yearly visit to Shanbally.
In order to sustain the above and our many more events & programmes throughout the school year, we rely hugely on the generosity of each and every one of you.
We will require Spot Prizes for our upcoming events, which include The School Bazaar and our Table Quiz Night held in November. Any unused presents you may have, boxes of chocolates, wine or vouchers would be really appreciated.
