The Active School Flag is a Department of Education and Skills initiative award that recognises schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. The ASF process requires schools to self-evaluate across three areas: Physical Education/Physical Activity/Partnerships. Shanbally National School has developed some fantastic partnerships in the last year.

  • Classes enjoyed tag rugby during the first term with Vincent and it is great to see the school develop their partnership with Carrigaline R.F.C.
  • Shanbally N.S. has been participating in a number of soccer tournaments in the last two years and all teams have performed very well.
  • We will be continuing our partnership with LeisureWorld in Bishopstown when swimming will take place in May and June.

  • Irish dancing will begin with classes on the 28th of February until the 4th of April with Miah.
  • The parents association and the staff were involved in a huge fundraising active initiative with the people powered cinema which was a huge success for all involved in Shanbally National School.
  • We had Mark McCabe in school to give each class a skipping workshop during BeActive week. We can see the benefits of this workshop during  lunch as all pupils are now skipping each day during both breaks.

  • During our active week last year we had Donal Murray from U.C.C. Ultimate Frisbee to come in and give classes a workshop.
  • We have continued our long association with Shamrocks G.A.A. and classes from 3rd – 6th class have all participated in various competitions and tournaments during the school year.
  • Rebel Wheelers have been kind enough to help us on our sports day and during active week where children and staff completed in relays.
