MORE INFORMATION

  • School Calendar for 2016/2017 will be forwarded next week
  • We appreciate, as always, your support through the annual family contribution of €60 which goes towards subsidising some school activities for your children, acquiring extra resource materials which are used within the classes, paying entry fees for various school competitions, etc.  You can of course pay for this in installments. Please remit in an envelope to the office/ class teacher with your child’s details and a receipt will be issued. A sincere thank you to those who pre-empted our request and have paid already.
  • There are further upcoming costs across the classes for gymnastics (all classes), Irish Dancing (all classes except 6th) and swimming (3rd & 4thclasses). These costs will remain similar to previous years e.g. Gymnastics €7 per child, Irish Dancing (€3 per child) and swimming(3rd & 4th classes only €45). The swimming costs have not yet been finalised. More information will follow on this.  Please remit gymnastics and Irish Dancing money now please €10 in total for all classes except 6th who only need to pay €7. School tours are being organised at the moment and you will be kept up to date as details are finalised. We anticipate costs to remain on par with last year.
    • For your information Gymnastics is delivered by professional gymnastics teacher Colm O’Toole and his Gymnastics Inc. Team, Irish Dancing is taught by Miah Walsh of the renown Walsh Irish Dancing Academy and swimming is with Leisure World, Bishopstown.
  • You will see on the schedule that March 15th 2016 has been designated “Proclamation Day” for schools in Ireland. This is part of the Ireland 2016 commemorative programme. We are finalising our activities for the day in the school. More details will follow.
  • Also on our schedule is World Thinking Day, Monday 22nd February, a global Girl Guide event when we will be encouraging children in our school who are Girl Guides (Brownies) to wear their Guiding uniforms. I’m sure those children involved will be informed of this by Unit Leader, Ingrid Glen. We look forward to supporting this initiative.
  • I have a lot of acknowledgements to make this term. As a school we rely heavily on the support of the parents of children in the school, our school staff and professionals who work with the school. I would like to thank them all most sincerely on behalf of myself, the school and the Board of Management. In particular I’d like to refer to the following:
    • All parents for their perseverance in the recent bad weather and for all the staff/parents who helped keep children safe in and around the school at drop off and collection times.
    • The Parents Association and parents who contributed generously with baking and buying in the recent fundraising Valentine’s Cake Sale.
    • Mrs. Tuohy for organizing Safer Internet Day in February again this year which the children really enjoy.
    • The staff and professionals involved in the Mrs. Tuohy’s  3rdClass F.R.I.E.N.D.S. for Life programme which is really beneficial to the children in that class and will reap rewards throughout their childhood and into their adult lives. This programme helps students to develop effective strategies to deal with worry, stress and change and how to cope with stress and anxiety both now and in later life. See http://ncse.ie/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/NEPS-Presentation-on-Friends-for-Life-for NCSE-Conference.ppt for more information.
    • The Diocesan Advisor who spent time recently with the school, visiting all classes and advising teachers. She was highly complimentary of the school’s delivery of the religion programme.
    • The amazing Peace Proms Team of Ms. O’Connell, Ms. O’Mahony, Mr. O’Mahony and Regina and especially the children for their hard work over the last few months on this which resulted in a really memorable day for all recently in the RDS.
    • Marc Galland for his success in the Irish Minor School Swimming Championships recently.
    • Ms. Moran and her class for taking part recently in a Basketball competition which was enjoyed by all in Glanmire. A big thank you to the parents who helped drop the children to and from the event.

Enjoy the mid-term,

David Nolan Principal
