The following note can also be found under the Parents’ Association tab in the school website.
February Cake Sale
As is tradition we are planning a Valentines Cake Sale. It’s a little early this year, due to Lent as we thought it best to have it a little earlier so everyone can enjoy the fun!! Sorry for the short notice but we would like to go for this Friday 05th. Please bring all cakes/cookies to the Halla on Friday morning. The cakes will be the normal price of 50c each (larger cakes priced individually). We ask you to please send an extra lunchbox or Tupperware container in with your child for their cakes.
National Council of the Blind Ireland – Bagathon
Due to the huge success of the clothes recycling last year we have arranged a second collection on Tuesday 08th March, please bring any unwanted clothes, shoes(pairs please), handbags, belts etc. to the Halla and we’ll start the collection now. These will be recycled by the NCBI through their network of stores, thus avoiding landfill. In acknowledgement of this, the NCBI will issue the school with a certificate of thanks noting the number of bags received. Accreditation will also be given towards the Green Flag award. We were delighted with the support for this event last year with a donation of 50 bags let’s try to break this record by spring-cleaning our wardrobes!!.
Mobile Phone and Electronics Recycling
We are on a roll with recycling and are asking that you dig in those kitchen drawers and cupboards for unwanted mobile phones or electronics, we are placing a container in the Halla for any electronic devices and they will be recycled through “Green Your Goods “which is not only good for the planet but will also generate revenue for the school. (See their website www.gyg.ie for more information on what electronics they will accept).
Money Snake
With the proposed removal of 1 and 2 cent coins imminent we thought this a good time to do another fun money snake (design to be confirmed). We hope you have been filling those Pringles containers with small change as we are hoping to do the money snake in the near future and will be running a class competition for the snake design.
Pub Quiz
Back by popular demand is the now infamous Shanbally National School PA “Pub Quiz” we are planning this for Friday March 05th (to be confirmed) in the Shamrock Bar, Shanbally, and would urge all parents to get a team together. It’s great fun and you seriously don’t have to be a genius to enter (more general knowledge questions then academic ones!!). More details will follow but start getting your team together, teams of 4 @€10 per person with fun prizes and a raffle on the night.
50th Anniversary Posters (Last few remaining!!)
A Limited number of 50th Anniversary Posters are available, with every child present in the school at the time featuring on the poster together with their teachers. Available at a reduced price of €2. (See Ruth in the office or a member of the PA)
Special Note
We’d like to congratulate Gemma Kavanagh (Mum of Ellen 5th Class and Stephen 2nd Class) on her recent weightlifting win, which also resulted in a world record for power lifting 105KG (go the Mums!!)
