The big day finally arrived! I was in the starting ten in the first game. We started well. I got a try. We passed the ball well and rarely let the ball slip through our fingers. It was a nail-biting first game, but Ballygarvan were too strong! The final score of the first game was : Shanbally-4 : Ballygarvan-6 with 3 tries from David Fox(myself) and a try from Rory Garrett.
Our team took a minute to sing our school song, “Nach Deas a Bheith Óg”, before we met our next rivals, “Educate Together School”. I didn’t start the second game, but our coach, aka Ms. Tuohy, put me on after two minutes. We controlled the game and got our first win. The score here was Shanbally -9 : Educate Together -4 with one try each from Jack Dorney and Alex and I scored seven tries!!
We again sang our school song. Ms. Tuohy and Michael gave us a pep talk and we were ready for our final game against St. Mary’s. We played well, but it wasn’t enough. We lost. The final score in this game was Shanbally- 4 : St. Mary’s 6, with two tries from myself and one try each from Alex and Jack.
It was a disappointing end to an excellent day. What cheered us up was that we all got a Munster Poster and pen. It was a great day and I hope we can do it again.
