Newsletter 4 13/11/19

Dear parents, please note the following:

  • Upcoming Early School Closures

School will close early for parent teacher meetings on November 20th and 21st (as covered in newsletter 3 of October 16th) School will finish at 12.30 for Juniors/ Seniors + siblings) and 12.45 for the rest of the school (all classes, including 4th class). 4th class parent teacher meetings will be held in early February, provisionally the week of February 10th.

    • Kids Inc- in the Halla on 20th and 21st.
    • Homework Club- none on the 20th and 21st
    • Art with Joanna on Wednesday 20th will be in the 4th class classroom, start time to be confirmed by Joanna.
  • Other Dates To Note
  1. Shanbally Christmas Nativity will be held on December 11th at 6.30 pm in Shanbally Church
  2. Junior Infant UCD Research Study November 14th and 15th
  3. 3rd Class Girls Blitz in Riverstick on Monday November 18th (permission slip being set up/ parents assistance with lifts will be requested)
  4. 3rd Class Boys Blitz in Riverstick on Monday 25th November (permission slip being set up/ parents assistance with lifts will be requested)
  5. Do this in Memory Mass for 2nd class on Sunday December 1st
  6. 6th Class Overnight Tour June 4th to June 5th 2020. Please note these are different dates than originally communicated to our PA (due to a clash with a Lewis Capaldi concert).
  • Cork Penny Dinner Christmas Appeal

Ms. Cunningham is collecting items for the homeless of Cork which she shall donate to Penny Dinners in Cork city. Penny Dinners work directly with the homeless people of Cork. The items that are needed/ requested for adults and children are:

  •    New and store packaged underwear, vests, tights, socks
  •    Children’s jackets
  •    Baby Wipes

Items will be collected throughout November and delivered them to Penny Dinners the first week in December. This is a way of helping the homeless in Cork city. All donations gratefully received. A box clearly marked has been put at the back of the Halla for anyone who would like to donate the listed items.

  • Cork Simon Appeal

A reminder that Cork Simon Santa Envelope/Stamp appeal is ongoing in the school from Juniors to 3rd class incl. They are available from Class Teachers for €1. All monies collected are donated to Cork Simon.

  • Thank you and acknowledgement of PA Work
  • A huge thank you to all who baked, bought and volunteered at our Cake Sale on October 24th.  Dress-up on Friday 25th was great fun despite the inclement weather.
  • Classes benefited hugely from the visit by Niamh O’Flynn, Wildlife Educator on the Heritage in Schools Scheme Directory with the Heritage Council. Classes explored local wildlife habitats.
  • The next PA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday November 26th, time tbc.
  • PA sponsored Reptile Village exhibition comes to the school on Thursday November 28th.
  • We are looking forward to seeing the creative Christmas Card designs as I’m sure the children and families are too!

All in Shanbally NS are thrilled with the safe arrival of baby Luke Gorman at the weekend and we wish Mrs. Gorman and Eymard the very best.

  • Achievements
  • 3rd class pupil Molly Marshall for her nomination in the category of “Inspirational Young Person in the inaugural Sunday Independent/ Gala Retail Inspiration Awards. These awards were established to promote selfless acts and inspirational deeds. Molly will attend the special awards evening hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan in Dublin on November 20th. Molly is a daily inspiration to us all in Shanbally NS and we hope she has a great time at the awards night.
  • 5th Class student Ben Anglim who represented us at the Munster School swimming competition in UL recently, winning the 50m backstroke in a new personal best time. Well done Ben.
  • Laura Sisk and Elisa Donegana (5th and 6th class respectively) who competed last weekend at the All-Ireland Gymnastics camp in Dublin with their club gymnastics’ team/ Elisa won individual silver and team silver and Laura won team bronze, fantastic achievement. Well done girls.
  • Local Sports Initiatives
    • Shamrocks GAA Underage Academy has moved indoors to the NMCI Ringaskiddy every Friday night.
      • At 6.30 pm for Boys born 2014-2011
      • At 7.30 pm for boys born 2010-2007

Full year membership €30 per individual, €75 per family.

Please bring gum shield. Club can supply hurleys and helmets at cost price

  • Carrigaline Rugby Football Club
    • Carrigaline RFC welcomes all new boys and girls aged 6-12 to join mini rugby teams
