November 10th to 17th is Science Week. Even with all the excitement of the Girl’s winning their Sciath na Scol Final on Tuesday, the children in Shanbally N.S managed to work on some interesting Science Week experiments.
In First Class the students had great fun designing and making boats that would float. All the boats managed to carry a varying amount of ‘Pea Passengers’. We discovered that without a flat base and upturned sides our boats would not not float. Upthrust is the force that keeps boats floating. We also experimented with a floating orange.
Then we investigated our coats. In first class nearly all of us had hoods and wore padded jackets. These are very suitable for keeping us warm. We were surprised to learn that in our class we were wearing eight different coloured coats!!!
