Parents and Staff,
It has come to our notice that a number of road development works have been drawn up and put forward for planning by Cork County Council. These directly affect our school as we will outline. To be clear, these measures are not the proposed Ringaskiddy Motorway and are supposed to be an interim measure to facilitate increased traffic from the Port.
It is proposed to replace the roundabout at Shanbally Village roundabout with a signalised T-junction. As a school, we feel that this proposal will make it very difficult, if not impossible, to safely drop off and collect children from school. Access, which is already problematic, will be made even more restricted by the reduction of the two exit/entries in the car park to just one. We would go so far as to say that this threatens the viability of our school.
Further measures which are proposed include the introduction of traffic lights at the Shannonpark roundabout. The Public Notice and a relevant newspaper article are included on this sheet. However, the full extent of these proposals only becomes clear when you see them drawn up. Maps of same will be displayed in the school over the next few days for you to examine.
A public meeting, organised by Ringaskiddy & District Residents Association, is taking place on Tuesday 26th November at 7.30pm in the Ringaskiddy Community Centre. All families must be represented at this meeting to ensure that our concerns are made known and that the rights and well-being of our school will be protected.
To enable us to attend this meeting we are forced (with kind permission of Ringaskiddy NS) to postpone our Confirmation Ceremony of Light to Monday December 2nd at 7pm. Apologies to all involved in this ceremony.
We look forward to seeing you next Tuesday night.
