Liaison and Communication with Parents

The relationship between School and Parents has always been a positive one in Shanbally school, and it will be the policy of this school to continue to encourage Parents to play an active supporting role to the teachers in ensuring that the children receive a good foundation in their educational and moral/social development.

1. The Parents Association plays an important role in the life of the school and the Principal attends their regular meetings and guides them in their efforts to provide the best facilities for the children.

2. There will be regular communications to the Parents informing them of events appertaining to the running of the school - e.g. they shall be advised well in advance of any closings, holidays and of the reasons for same.

3. Text-a Parent is in operation in this school as a means of communicating with parents, B.O.M and school groups.

4. Certain dates in November/early December shall be set aside for the individual meetings between Teacher and Parent(s) of each child in the school, so that an intimate and confidential update can be given of the pupil's progress.

5. A written report will be provided for each child in the school at the end of the school year, a record of which will be kept in the school files. These will be posted approximately one week before the child returns for the following school year.

6. Random approaches to the class teacher during class hours will be discouraged, but if a meeting is necessary Parents are encouraged to telephone for an appointment so that (i) the teacher can be adequately prepared and (ii) supervision and work can be arranged for the class.

7. At the A.G.M. of the Parents Association in September/ October each year, a specific time has been allotted to the Principal who (a) reviews the past years work and (b) outlines some expectation for the coming year.

8. Parents are involved at the introduction of the child to Primary School, in keeping with our Policy on Pupil Intake to the school.

9. Parents are required to sign Pupils Journals (1st - 6th Classes) to say that home exercise is completed.

10. A "Parents Notice board" in the Entrance Foyer shall have all relevant notices appended.

11. Parents are asked sometimes to help with the transport of children on a voluntary basis, to extra-curricular activities.
