Cara Awards

On Thursday November 30th in Dublin, Shanbally NS was announced as the Cara National Award winner in the Education Sector. This award recognised those who enhance participation opportunities for people with disabilities in sport, physical activity and physical education. This category encompasses all levels of education, primary, secondary and third level. This award is the culmination of many years of commitment by staff to the promotion of a culture of inclusion and excellence in Shanbally NS. We are delighted for this recognition after many years of hard work in this area. It takes a long time to develop such a culture of inclusion and for it to become second nature to us all. This award is a tribute to the partnership between the children, staff, parents and wider community of Shanbally NS past and present. We are finalising plans for an in-school celebration on this Thursday so there will be no homework that night.

Shamrocks GAA Table Quiz

Our local GAA Club, Shamrocks is holding a Table Quiz (general knowledge, set by Mr. Clifford)  on Friday 29th September at 8.30 pm in the Shamrock Bar, to offset costs of hiring a GAA school’s coach for all 3 schools in the parish. They are hoping that parents in our school will support it.

A table of 4 is €40 (€10 per person). A raffle will also be held with some excellent prizes  (we’re told) including a weekend away for 2.  We look forward to seeing you on the night. Thank you.

3rd Class Trip to Fota

Fota Wildlife Park.

On November 23rd  Third Class  went on a trip to Fota Wildlife Park. This was not our school tour, but it was an extra tour for us, in November, to learn about how they re-use and recycle, in Fota. We attended a workshop called “Going Green, Staying Green”.  We travelled there by bus.

We went behind the scenes to the kitchen and we learned how they made the food for the animals. They told us why they feed them more vegetables than fruit. The reason is that vegetables are much healthier for them than fruit. Fruit has a lot of sugar in it. We saw animals like cheetahs, giraffes, ostriches and much more. We visited the giraffes in their houses.

When we got on the bus to go back to school Miss Tuohy showed us a little gift that Mr Nolan bought for us. He got pencils and notebooks for everybody, the gift shop at Fota.

When we got back to class we made cards to thank Fota for the wonderful day we had. We got no homework and we all had a great day.
