This seminar focuses on the full implementation of the PLC from Junior Infants to 6th class as well as a chance to reflect on implementation to date for Juniors to Second class in relation to teaching and learning. All teachers will attend from 9.15 am to 3.15 pm.

Children will not attend school this day. Please note that this is the Monday immediately following our midterm break.

  • Retirement gift to the school from Patricia Kelly

Last Friday week we held a Retirement Concert for our recently retired colleague Patricia Kelly. At this event she kindly presented a cheque that she asked would be used directly on the children. We have a travelling theatre group (M&M Theatrical Productions) coming next Monday to put on “A little Princess” (see previous notice). Given the performance is from 1pm to 2pm this is open to 1st to 6th class incl. This production has an anti-bullying theme in it and has been held successfully in local boys school for the last 2 years. Our SSLD class (Juniors and Seniors) and our mainstream Junior and Senior Classes will go home as normal at 1.30pm. Our PA see below are looking to put on a different event to include our younger classes later this term.  We hope the children will enjoy the play on Monday.

  • Parents Association

A genuine thank you to the large number of parents who turned out last night to our PA planning meeting following the AGM on September 9th. The Committee for the year ahead is as follows:

Chairperson Ingrid Cooper, Treasurer Sandy Griffin, Secretary Marie-Anne Cotter, Uniforms Tracy Crotty.

At our meeting we discussed many important items and also planning of events for the year ahead. The PA will publish their own newsletter in the next few days. One of the major topics for conversation last night was concern for the health and safety of children with the level of poor/ indiscriminate parking at school opening and closing times. I will send home information separately in this regard tomorrow.

Chris Slavin who was in the school with assistant dog Earle in September is currently on her fundraising hand-cycle around Ireland. She is due to pass Shanbally NS on Wednesday October 9th next. She has a Facebook Page (Project Possible) which is charting her progress around Ireland. She started from Killarney on Saturday September 7th and has now reached the North of Ireland on her journey. We support her fundraising efforts and we will be asking the children to support this cause financially in advance of her “passing by” on October 9th. It will be great to present her with the funds raised then.

  • Shamrocks GAA/ Shanbally NS Red Day on Tuesday October 1st

Shanbally NS continues to enjoy a healthy and fruitful relationship with Shamrocks GAA club. As ever we remain extremely grateful for the use of their sports grounds for school activities including Sciath na Scol matches, sports days, Cork City Sports training, extra yard space during the fine weather etc. We also have a schools coach Anthony Shannon who is working with our present 3rd and 4th classes on Fridays. To help alleviate the cost of this coaching a fundraising table quiz will take place in the Shamrock Bar on Friday October 4th at 8 pm. A team of 4 is €40. Questions as always will be set by Mr. Clifford (5th class) and we encourage all to brush up on their sport and current affairs and take part.

Shamrocks outdoor academy will take place from Friday September 27th on the pitch in Shamrocks from 6.30 pm. The Shamrocks Ladies Football continues to thrive and it is wonderful to see so many of our boys and girls playing with the club. Any enquiries regarding joining Shamrocks for either boys or girls can go through me, David Nolan, and I will forward appropriately.

Shamrocks player Sean Andrews recently enjoyed the privilege of winning an all-Ireland medal with the Cork Minor Footballers against Galway. To celebrate this wonderful achievement, Sean and Shamrocks representatives will visit the school next Tuesday October 1st with both the Minor and Under 20 all Ireland cups. To mark this, the school is hosting a Red Day where children are encouraged to wear Cork jerseys if they have them or other red clothing.  Please do not go to any expense in this regard.

We are also hoping that past pupil Chloe McGrath who won an all-Ireland medal with Cork over the summer will also be able to attend.

Best wishes to our Sciath na Scol teams who travel to Gortroe GAA grounds to play against Clonpriest NS on tomorrow Wednesday in Round 3 of their group.

  • CCS Open Day

All 5th and 6th class children will be bussed to and from Carrigaline Community School for their Open Day. They will leave Shanbally at 11.30 am approx. and will arrive back in Shanbally at 1 pm approx.  If for some reason your child won’t be able to attend, please let the teacher know.

  • School Calendar 2019-2020

Tomorrow we will circulate an updated school calendar which will include changes referred to above and planned PA events etc.
